Installing the HIPS Client Using Unicenter SDO

You can add the HIPS Client to the Unicenter SDO Software Library v4.0 and then distribute it using SMS 2003.

Note: This procedure is for Advance Client (Windows 2000 or higher) distribution installations.

To add HIPS Client to Unicenter SDO Software Library v4.0

  1. Build the HIPS Client .zip file from the HIPS Server and save it to a location that is accessible by the Unicenter SDO Server.
  2. Uncompress Client.zip.
  3. Select either x64 (64-bit) or x32 (32-bit) version of the client, delete the other version, and copy all of the files into a single directory.
  4. Select the Software Library node in the Software Delivery Explorer interface, right-click Software Library node, and select Register MSI-package from the menu.

    The MSI Package Registration Wizard dialog appears.

  5. On the first page of the wizard, select Register the MSI package and click Next.

    The MSI-file location dialog appears.

  6. In the MSI-file location dialog, enter the path to the CA HIPS Managed Client.msi file or click Browse to navigate to the correct location and click Next.

    The Installation from CD-ROM dialog appears.

  7. (Optional) Enter the appropriate information in the Installation from CD-ROM dialog and click Next.

    The Customize MSI Installation dialog appears.

  8. (Optional) Enter the appropriate information in the Customize MSI installation dialog and click Next.
  9. (Optional) Choose whether to install the MSI without elevated privilege.
  10. Click Finish to complete registration of the HIPS Managed Client MSI in the Software Library.

    The CA HIPS Managed Client 1.5.290 appears on the All Software node.

To distribute HIPS Client software using SMS 2003

  1. Create a new share network directory containing the HIPS managed client (Extract from Client.zip).

    This share must accessible to all users.

  2. Select either the x64 (64-bit) or x32 (32-bit) version of the client, delete the other version, and copy all of the files into a single directory
  3. Open the SMS Administration Console.
  4. In the SMS Administration Console, expand Site Database, Collections, and select All Users. Right-click All Users, click All Tasks, and click Distribute Software.

    The Distribute Software to Collection Wizard appears.

  5. Click Next.

    The Package window appears.

  6. Verify that the Create a new package from a definition option is selected and click Next.

    The Package Definition dialog appears.

  7. Click Browse and select CA HIPS Managed Client.msi from the share network directory defined at the beginning, then click Next.

    The Source Files wizard page appears.

  8. In the Source Files window, select Always obtain files from a source directory and click Next.

    The Source Directory window appears.

  9. In the Source Directory window, select UNC and enter the correct share network directory location for CA HIPS Managed Client.msi for the path. Click Next.

    The Distribution Points dialog appears.

  10. In the Distribution Points window, select an available SMS Server and click Next.

    The Select a Program to Advertise window appears.

  11. In the Select a Program to Advertise window, select Per-user unattended and click Next.

    The Advertisement Name window appears.

  12. In the Advertisement Name window, enter CA HIPS Managed Client in the Name field and click Next.

    The Advertise to Subcollections window appears.

  13. In the Advertise to Subcollections window, select the Advertise the program to members of Subcollections as well option and click Next.

    The Advertisement Schedule window appears.

  14. In the Advertisement Schedule window, ensure that the date and time reflect the date and time you want this program installed on the client and select the No. This advertisement never expires option. Click Next.
  15. The Assign Program window appears.
  16. In the Assign Program window, select the No. Do not assign the program option and click Next.
  17. Click Finish to complete the process.
